BreakThrough Communications mostly consists of senior technical communications consultant Paul Race and a number of associates who have worked in partnership with Paul over time.
Paul, a Miamisburg High School and two-time Wright State graduate started BreakThrough Communications in 1995 when NCR (then a Dayton-based division of AT&T) needed help creating marketing plans and technical documentation for data networking and telecommunications products and services.
Paul has since led any number of projects under the BreakThrough Communications umbrella, bringing in other consultants to help when the job was too big for one person. At times, BreakThrough Communications has also been a “subcontractor” for other consulting firms, including HDL Consulting (Harry Liebschutz), the Latimer Group, Accenture, TekSystems, and KForce. Clients have included AT&T, NCR, Lucent, Tulane University, Navistar International, eReinsurance.com, Nationwide Insurance, Smartworks, Cincinnati Financial, Sterling Commerce, J.P. Morgan-Chase, Reed-Elsevier, Lexis-Nexis, and Martindale-Hubble.
BreakThrough Communications generally works on a Business-to-Business 1099 basis. Occasionally, Paul takes a position in a corporation if the company prefers working that way and the project is expected to be over a year in duration. Currently, Paul is working full-time for Assurant Corporation, documenting and training employees on proprietary software as well as on Agile-based development methodologies. However, BreakThrough Communications continues to function as a separate company identifying other resources to align with corporate documentation and training needs.
